New Patient FAQs
-
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your first visit is all about understanding your pain, your goals, and your overall health. We’ll start with a focused consultation and a movement-based exam to see how your body is functioning. Most patients also receive digital X-rays so we can clearly identify what’s contributing to their symptoms. After your visit, your doctor will review your imaging in detail and, at your second appointment, go over the results with you and outline a personalized care plan based on your specific needs. -
How long does the first visit usually take?
Most new patient appointments take 45–60 minutes, depending on whether imaging or additional testing is needed. We never rush your evaluation—you’ll have time to ask questions and feel confident in your care plan. -
Will I receive treatment on the first day?
In many cases, yes. If your provider determines that it’s safe and appropriate, you may receive chiropractic treatment or therapeutic exercises on your first visit.
For regenerative medicine consults, your provider will first review your imaging, health history, and functional exam to determine whether you’re a candidate before any treatment is scheduled. -
What should I bring to my appointment?
To get the most out of your first visit, please bring:- Your photo ID
- Any recent (less than 3 months) X-rays or MRI reports
- A list of current medications and supplements
- Comfortable clothing you can move in
- Your insurance card (if using insurance)
-
Do you accept insurance?
We accept insurance for chiropractic care, exams, and medically necessary services, depending on your plan.
Regenerative medicine treatments—such as PRP and other joint-healing injections—are typically cash-based because insurance does not currently cover these advanced therapies.
Our team will review all costs with you before any treatment begins. -
What conditions do you treat?
We help patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological issues, including:- Back and neck pain
- Herniated discs and sciatica
- Shoulder, hip, and knee pain
- Osteoarthritis
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Sports injuries
- Trigger points and muscle tension
- Poor posture and movement dysfunction
If you’re unsure whether we can help your condition, just ask—we’re happy to guide you.

What makes Bear Paw Medical different?
We combine natural healing, modern medical treatments, and expert chiropractic care under one roof. Our integrated approach means you receive care that looks beyond symptoms to find and address the root cause of pain.
We emphasize non-surgical, non-narcotic solutions, individualized treatment plans, and advanced regenerative therapies so you can feel better faster and stay better longer. -
Do you offer imaging in the office?
Yes. We offer digital X-ray imaging when needed to evaluate joint alignment, disc health, and structural factors contributing to your pain. This allows us to diagnose accurately and begin building your treatment plan on day one. -
I’m nervous about treatment. What if I’m unsure?
You’re not alone—many patients feel this way before their first visit. We take time to explain every step, answer your questions, and ensure you feel comfortable before moving forward. Nothing is ever done without your understanding and consent. Your comfort and confidence matter to us. -
What is regenerative medicine and will I qualify for it?
Regenerative medicine uses your body’s own healing potential to repair and restore damaged tissue. It may be appropriate for arthritis, tendon injuries, ligament damage, and chronic joint pain.
Your provider will determine candidacy based on your health history, imaging, and functional exam. -
How soon will I feel better?
Every patient heals at their own pace. Some notice improvement after their first chiropractic session, while regenerative therapies may take several weeks as tissue begins to heal.
We’ll guide you through every stage of recovery so you know exactly what to expect. -
Can I bring a spouse, friend, or child to my appointment?
Absolutely. You’re welcome to bring a spouse, friend, or child with you for support. We are a family-friendly practice, and many patients appreciate having a partner or family member present during their initial consultation and review of findings. Children are always welcome in our office. -
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. This helps us offer your appointment time to another patient who may need care. -
Do I need to fill out paperwork before I arrive?
Yes. We offer convenient online intake forms so you can complete your paperwork ahead of time from your phone or computer. Once you are scheduled, our staff will send the necessary documents through our secure online portal. Completing these forms in advance allows your appointment to begin promptly. -
Where are you located and when should I arrive?
We proudly serve the Kingwood–Humble–Atascocita–Lake Houston community from our convenient location on W. Lake Houston Parkway. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to get settled and ensure a smooth start to your appointment. -
Do you treat athletes or sports-related injuries?
Yes! We work with athletes of all ages and levels—from recreational to competitive. With over 20 years of sports medicine and athletic training experience, Dr. Harrell understands the demands athletes place on their bodies and how to keep them performing at their best. We commonly treat:- Rotator cuff injuries
- Knee and ankle sprains
- Tendonitis
- Hip dysfunction
- Overuse injuries
- Mobility and performance limitations
Our goal is to help athletes recover faster, prevent future injuries, and return to their sport stronger than before.
-
Do you treat patients who have been in car accidents?

- Disc injuries
- Neck and back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Soft tissue strain
- Post-accident headaches
We also provide documentation for insurance or legal cases when needed and create a personalized recovery plan to help you heal safely and effectively.
